CHARLEVOIX COUNTY SCHOOL NEWS
Abel M. Chew, School Commissioner

There were 34 applicants for Eighth Grade diplomas and 18 diplomas granted. We intend that the diploma shall mean something and cannot grant a diploma unless the pupil displays a general knowledge of the subjects comprising the rural course.

In many instances the spelling was bad. One pupil missed 45 of the 50 words in the test. They were ordinary words that the pupils should be familiar with.

In a large number of papers the penmanship was fine. Take the examination all through and the pupils did nicely. The larger number failed in the spelling test. The ordinary business formed in arithmetic seemed to have been neglected by the pupils.

The following named pupils received diplomas:

Daisy R. Chew, Bayshore
Rov Webster, Clarion
Minnie Webster, Clarion
May Wheeler, Clarion
Mae Ransom, Clarion
Ethel Caine, Advance
Lulu Critea, Advance
Ella Meggison, Charlevoix
